Replacing Missing Teeth With Bridges In NYC

When it comes to proper speech, chewing and proper alignment- all of your teeth play a crucial role. Tooth loss doesn’t necessarily have to occur as you age, but if you do happen to lose teeth, they must be replaced to maintain the proper function of your mouth. Fortunately, there are several options for correcting tooth loss.

Dental Bridge Options

A bridge is a device used to replace missing teeth that attach artificial teeth to adjacent natural teeth, called abutment teeth. Bridges are either permanently attached (fixed bridges), or they can be removable.

dental bridges can help fill the gaps in your smileFixed bridges are applied by either placing crowns on the abutment teeth or by bonding the artificial teeth directly to the abutment teeth. Removable bridges are attached to the teeth with metal clasps or with precision attachments.

If you happen to be missing one or more teeth, you may be aware of their importance to your appearance and dental health. Your teeth work together for many daily functions, from eating to speaking. With missing teeth, it’s difficult to do these things. Missing teeth can, and should be replaced as soon as they can. Fixed bridges are a great way to restore your dental health and appearance without breaking the bank.

Dental Bridge Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Should I choose dental bridges or dental implants?

What exactly is a bridge or fixed partial denture?

A bridge (fixed partial denture) is a device which fills the gap where teeth are absent. Fixed bridges are bonded into place and can only be removed by a dental professional. Removable bridges, as the name implies, can be taken out and cleaned. Fixed bridges offer more stability than their removable counterparts.

Why do I need a dental bridge?

Oral functionality and appearance are important reasons for wearing a bridge. A bridge helps support your lips and cheeks. The loss of a back tooth may cause your mouth to sink and your face to look older.

Overall, dental health is the most important reason for getting a bridge. Our teeth were designed to complement each other. Unusual stresses are placed on the gums and other oral tissues when teeth are missing, causing a number of potentially harmful disorders.

Increased risk of gum disease has proven to be one of the worst side effects of missing teeth and can be minimized with a bridge.

Missing teeth can also cause speech disorders, as the teeth are used to make many of the sounds we use to speak clearly.

How is a dental bridge attached?

The attachment procedure usually takes two or three appointments at our New York City office to complete. At the first appointment Dr. Pasch, Dr. Yam, Dr. Shirzadnia or Dr. Kirshenbaum will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap by removing a portion of the enamel and dentin.

With the help of our full-service on-site lab, many times a dental bridge can be created right at Herald Square Dental. This reduces the amount of time to set, as well as cost, for your bridge.

Fixed bridges are typically cemented to the natural teeth next to the space left by the missing tooth. A pontic (false tooth) replaces the lost tooth. Crowns, which are cemented onto the natural teeth, provide support for the bridge.

What materials are used?

Bridges can be constructed from gold alloys, non-precious alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Porcelain is often bonded to either precious or non-precious metal.

How do I take care of my dental bridge?

A strict regimen of brushing and flossing will keep the bridge and surrounding teeth clean. This is of critical importance as the bridge relies on the neighboring teeth for support.

Patient Review By Freddie H

In 2015 the partial upper that was made for me when I was probably 16 years old had cracked and was ill fitting. The work that I do requires me to interact with staff, colleagues, contractors etc., on a consistent basis. When I arrived to Herald Square Dental to meet with Dr. Pasch, I explained to him, that I had to take an emergency trip to Israel for a family matter, and I could not leave with a cracked upper partial. Obviously Dr. Pasch sensed my anxiety and he repaired my cracked upper partial and immediately prepared me for a new partial which he had ready in record time. More than the actual dental services that Dr. Pasch provided, was his sensitivity to my particular circumstance and his response to that concern. Over the years I had been meaning to stop by to personally thank him, and I had that opportunity recently when I returned to have a new partial prepared and to have some additional work done. I am also recommending my staff, my family and my friends to come to Herald Square Dental for their dental needs. You are all the best in the industry and I thank you all for the service that you provide, particularly Dr. Pasch.

Dr. Pasch is the most amazing surgeon. He removed 2 teeth at the same time and I didn't know I had surgery the next day!

The consummate professional ! THe epitomy of a dental surgeon! A man of integrity !!! I saw Dr. Yam for a consult wanting dentures. He refused not wanting to extract perfectly good teeth. I wanted to do it for cosmetics. He took so much time attempting to find ways to improve the appearance without extracting. He literally cares for the patient's well being. Instead of making a fast buck he talked me into doing what was right. You will never go wrong choosing Dr. Yam. Oh and dont let the waiting room deceive you. When you walk through those doors you will be blown away by the sheer size and appearance of the facilities.
